Taylor Swift Cape House Final Edition

August 23, 2012

The hardreading staff’s Taylor Swift bureau has diligently tracked – and Tracked! – the rumpus over whether she did or did not buy the Hyannisport house next door to boyfriend Conor Kennedy’s grandma Ethel. Locally, the Boston Herald said she made  the creepy-stalky purchase while the Boston Globe said the jury’s still out.

We now seem to have a verdict, thanks to the Cape Cod Times (via New York magazine’s Vulture):

Hope’s dashed: It’s not Taylor Swift’s house

It turns out, those rumors just weren’t true. A New York hedge fund manager — not Taylor Swift — signed a contract to buy the house next door to the Kennedy compound, according to the real estate agency representing the property’s seller.

Paul Grover, a principal in Robert Paul Properties, said the buyer signed a contract for the home at 27 Marchant Ave. in Hyannisport, but the sale has not closed yet.

So there’s still, er, hope?

We hope not.

Regardless, it’s good to live in a three-daily town, yes?

Taylor Swift Wedding Crasher Edition

August 22, 2012

From the evidence in today’s Boston dailies, Taylor Swift is not the most welcome guest in and around town.

Start with the Boston Herald, where the Track Gals (and Megan!) produced this startling report:

Kennedy mom: Taylor Swift crashed wedding

Taylor Swift crashed the Kennedy wedding in Boston over the weekend and did not leave after being twice asked to do so, the mother of the bride, Victoria Gifford Kennedy, told the Track yesterday.

But Swift’s publicist insisted that the country superstar was a welcome guest and that the bride was happy to have her share the spotlight.

A source at the hotel reported seeing Swift being asked to leave the Fairmont Copley Plaza hotel where Kyle Kennedy, the daughter of the late Michael Kennedy and Victoria Gifford Kennedy, was celebrating her marriage to Liam Kerr on Saturday. So we rang up Vicki for the 411.

“They texted me an hour before the wedding and asked if they could come,” Vicki Kennedy said. “I responded with a very clear, ‘Please do not come.’ They came anyway. … I personally went up to Ms. Swift, whose entrance distracted the entire event, politely introduced myself to her, and asked her as nicely as I could to leave. It was like talking to a ghost. She seemed to look right past me.”

Funny, she does the same thing to us.

Over at the Globe, the hardreading staff’s plaintive request on WBUR’s Radio Boston last Friday – namely, would someone figure out if Swift actually bought a house on the Cape or not? – was very kindly answered in todays Names column.  And the answer is: Nobody knows.

It’s been widely rumored that the country singer, who’s currently dating Conor Kennedy, plunked down $4.9 million — a tiny fraction of her sizable fortune — to buy the 4,440-square-foot gray shingle spread across the street from Ethel Kennedy ’s place in Hyannis Port.

But it’s tough to confirm. The deed on the property is held by Coleman Limited Partnership of Greenwich, Conn., and calls to the previous owner, Nancy Coleman, were not returned. Meanwhile, an employee at the Barnstable County Registry of Deeds — who told us he’s talked to “tons” of reporters trying to confirm the sale — said if Swift did indeed purchase the place, her name would not necessarily appear on public records.

Okay, then. But one thing the Namesniks do know: “While Swift herself is welcome in town, some residents we spoke to aren’t so wild about the press and paparazzi that have followed her.”

Well, at least we’ve got that cleared up.

Is Taylor Swift a Cape Cod Homeowner? Edition

August 20, 2012

When the hardreading staff last left our Taylor Swift bureau, we had received conflicting reports about whether she had actually purchased a house next door to/across the street from Ethel Kennedy’s manse in Hyannisport/Hyannis Port (per the Boston Herald/Globe).

Then . . . nothing. No resolution. Just confusion and anxiety.

Which was alleviated not at all by this piece in the Herald’s Inside Track today:

Taylor Swift’s storybook romance

Taylor Swift’s summer fling with the Kennedy clan continued over the weekend. On Friday, she and her BF, 18-year-old Conor Kennedy, were smooching in Hyannisport, on Saturday, they were in Boston for a Kennedy wedding and yesterday, they were back in church in Centerville.

The fun began Friday afternoon when Conor and Tay Tay, both dressed in shorts, played a little tonsil hockey on the dock in Hyannisport. The lovebirds were soooooo busy macking on each other, they paid no attention to boaters who were cruising the busy dock, taking in the PDA.

Right – later they went to the wedding, then the lovebirds sashayed through Haymarket and the North End, then it was back to the Cape where they attended Sunday Mass and where Swift MIGHT OR MIGHT NOT OWN A HOUSE.

The Track Gals (and Megan!) – normally a storehouse of information – don’t say.

The hardreading staff just wishes someone would.

Taylor Swift Cape House Edition

August 14, 2012

Today’s Boston Herald Inside Track has the inside story on the newest Bay State homeowner:

Country crooner Taylor Swift spent an action-packed weekend with the Kennedyclan in Hyannisport then jetted home to Nashville yesterday to make a “big announcement” on her official YouTube channel.

Tay Tay, who dropped a cool $5 million for the house next door to her new boyfriend Conor Kennedy’s grammy Ethel (Stage 5 Clinger alert!) was snapped sporting a red polka-dot bikini top as she frolicked with Conor’s dad, Bobby Kennedy Jr., and other members of the political dynasty on the Cape.

Yay Yay for Tay Tay, right?

Not so fast, my friends.

According to the Boston Globe’s Names column, it’s not next door to Ethel’s crib and it’s not a done deal:

Taylor Swift — who has spent much of the summer frolicking around Hyannis Port with her boyfriend (and Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s son) Conor Kennedy — might be one of the community’s newest homeowners. We say “might,” because despite reports that the country-pop singer has purchased the home across the street (photos at right) from Ethel Kennedy (Conor’s grandmother), Swift has yet to confirm the sale, and we have yet to see public paperwork that proves that she’s the owner.

At least the two papers agree she’s been “frolicking.”

Regardless, this needs to be sorted.

And swiftly.

Taylor Gives Cape House the Swift

March 6, 2013

Taylor Swift has made a rapid exit from Cape Cod homeownership, which the local dailies are on like Taylor on . . . whoever.

From the Boston Globe’s Namesniks:

COVER WITH COVERLINESTaylor Swift on serial boyfriends, home buying in Vanity Fair

Singer Taylor Swift tries hard to dispel a few myths — or at least what she’d like you to believe are myths — in the new issue of Vanity Fair.

First, despite many high-profile romances with, among others, John Mayer, Joe JonasTaylor Lautner, and Jake Gyllenhaal, Swift insists she is neither boy crazy nor a serial dater.

Yak yak yak . . .

Cut to the real estate portion of the Vanity Fair interview:

“People say . . . that I apparently buy houses near every boy I like — that’s a thing that I apparently do. If I like you I will apparently buy up the real-estate market just to freak you out so you leave me,” she told the magazine. “If there’s a pregnancy rumor, people will find out it’s not true when you wind up not being pregnant, like nine months from now, and if there’s a house rumor, they’ll find out it’s not true when you are actively not ever spotted at that house.”

So did she or didn’t she buy the house? Our sources say she did, and Ethel Kennedy herself called Swift a “neighbor” when we spoke to her last fall. Vanity Fair, likewise, quoting “someone close to the situation,” claims Swift bought the house, but has since sold it.

“It was like a house-flip,” the source told the magazine. “A good short-term investment.”

How good? The Boston Herald’s Inside Track, as usual, provides the details:

mirror_no_textA Swift turnaround on Cape property!

From the Rich-Get-Richer File: Taylor Swift, who bought a house adjacent to the Kennedy
Compound during her summer fling with high school junior Conor Kennedy, just sold it at a sweet $875,000 profit —
after owning the Hyannisport manse all of three months!

According to the Barnstable County Registry of Deeds, Swift sold the seven-bedroom waterfront estate on Marchant Avenue for something in the neighborhood of $5.6 million. Nice neighborhood! In November, the pop superstar plunked down $4.8 million for the digs, which originally had been listed for $13 million. Such a savvy businesswoman!

Not so good at dating, though.

Taylor-Made: Split Decision on Swift’s New Album

October 22, 2012

Today’s local dailies have polar opposite reviews of Taylor Swift’s new album.

Start with James Reed’s piece in the Boston Globe:

With her new album ‘Red,’ Taylor Swift grows up

Pursues pop hits — and more mature songwriting

For a sense of how much Taylor Swift has matured on her new album, compare the title track with that of her last record.

“Speak Now,” from 2010, cast Swift as a hapless “girl” (in her words) who crashed the wedding of her ex-boyfriend and proceeded to hide behind a curtain and make silly jokes about the bride. The whole scenario was cute, like something a lovable sitcom character would do for a cheap laugh.

Think of “Red” as the next chapter in that young girl’s life. She has become a young woman, and that joke isn’t funny anymore. Now she’s writing about heartache from a decidedly grown-up perspective.

Okay, now say hello to the Boston Herald’s Jed Gottlieb. His piece renders a decidedly different verdict.

It’s time for Swift to grow up

Taylor Swift turns 23 in December.

It’s the age when most teen idols try to transition to the adult market. While in their early 20s, Justin Timberlake matured beyond ’N SYNC, Canadian teen queen Alanis Morissette turned into a superstar hellion, and Janet Jackson became “Miss Jackson, if you’re nasty.”

But Swift isn’t interested in adulthood. She wants to be 16 forever. Not 21 or even 18, but a Sweet 16 spinning diary entries into pop ditties — she’s dating a junior in high school for goodness sake!

And might be playing around on him!

From Examiner.com (but it’s all over the web):

Taylor Swift cheats with Patrick Schwarzenegger

Taylor Swift may be tired of playing the victim and has turned the tables on Conor Kennedy. It has been reported that Taylor Swift cheated on Conor Kennedy with Patrick Schwarzenegger. Conor Kennedy and Patrick Schwarzenegger are cousins

Celeb Dirty Laundry reported on October 10 Taylor Swift was caught “making out” with Patrick Schwarzenegger. This activity went on all night at a Kennedy family event. At the time of publication, the exact Kennedy family event was unknown.

Maybe because it never happened. Then again the hardbrowsing staff did see this on the cover of a checkout tabloid:

Kennedys: Taylor is trash!

Hey, Track Gals (and Megan!): We need you on the case here.

Globe Eulogizes Karina Moreira Later/Better Than Herald

October 5, 2014

Sometimes, the knockoff is superior to the original. At least that seems to be the case in memorializing local fashion blogger Karina Moreira, who died last week at the tragically young age of 16.

From Friday’s Boston Herald Inside Track:

Screen Shot 2014-10-05 at 2.00.15 AM

Getting there first: Nice.

From Saturday’s Boston Globe:

Fashion blogger Karina Moreira, 16, dies after battle with cancer

suarez_08cancerblog(1)_G_004

Karina Moreira, 16, whose blog “chic by karina” caught the attention of supermodel Gisele Bundchen, Taylor Swift, and thousands of followers on social media, died Thursday evening, according to her mother Daniela Xavier.

“I am so proud of [Karina],” she said. “With everything that she went through, she still had hope and faith in God. She never gave up or complained.”

Getting Karina’s family: Nicer.

Now say thanks to the Herald, Globeniks.

Conor’s a Goner

October 26, 2012

The Taylor Swift/Conor Kennedy bustup is of course the Main Dish in both local dailies, but as usual, the ingredients vary.

The Globe’s Namesniks are pretty tentative about the whole thing:

Taylor Swift and Conor Kennedy split?

On the same day Taylor Swift released a video for “Begin Again,” a song about starting over after a bad breakup, word comes that the country singer’s romance with Conor Kennedy is kaput.

Citing an unnamed source close to Swift, Us Weekly reported that the 22-year-old “You Belong to Me” singer and the 18-year-old grandson of Robert F. Kennedy have split.

“They quietly parted ways a while ago,” the friend told the magazine. “It was just a distance thing. No hard feelings. They’re fine.”

That sounds like a Kennedy-industrial complex party line, eh?

No such pussyfooting around from the Track Gals (and Megan!) in the Herald:

Taylor Swift/Conor Kennedy fling hits the rocks

Like so many summer romances that burn hot in July and August, Taylor Swift’s fling with Conor Kennedy cooled once the leaves turned and the Hyannisport sun faded.

It was epic while it lasted — all two months’ worth. They frolicked at the compound, where, according to Ethel Kennedy, Tay Tay, 22, was just like one of the family. In fact, Swift and the Kennedy dowager seemed to have a lot hotter romance than the singer and Ethel’s 18-year-old grandson. (“I love her,” Taylor said. “She’s sensational inside and out,” Ethel said.) . . .

Word is, Conor cooled on the relationship because Tay Tay came on waaaay too strong for the frightened Deerfield Academy junior.

“It kind of freaked him out,” a source told Radar Online.

There – that’s the kind of dish we like served up.  Fresh and steamy.

Running in Different Social Circles

September 17, 2012

The local gossip gangs went their separate ways over the weekend, as their columns revealed today.

The Boston Herald Track Gals (and Megan!) motored west:

Taylor Swift’s romantic western Mass. weekend

Taylor Swift made the journey out to western Massachusetts this weekend to visit her high school honey, Deerfield Academy junior Conor Kennedy, but there were no football games or school dances on the couple’s agenda. In fact, their weekend agenda was more like a middle-aged couple’s than a pair of young lovers …

The duo kicked it off with a low-key dinner at the appropriately named Taylor’s Tavern in Greenfield, where Swift, looking lovely in a green dress, ordered a salad, and even let Conor grab a few bites. He sported the typical prep-school “uniform” of shorts and a button-down shirt, and ordered a burger.

But don’t worry that 22-year-old Taylor is a negative influence on Conor, who’s got to wait a few years before he can legally hit the bars. Staff told the Track that the couple’s beverages of choice were all non-alcoholic.

Okay . . . that’s plenty of that.

Meanwhile, back in the civilized world, the Boston Globe Namesniks went the society route:

John Henry and Linda Pizzuti Henry host a big night for MGH

Red Sox owner John Henry and his wife, Linda Pizzuti Henry (who is pregnant), opened their Brookline home on Saturday night to a crowd of more than 400 Massachusetts General Hospital supporters who have contributed to its $1.5 billion charity campaign. The dinner party included a quick performance by Brandeis-educated Broadway actress Mary Faber (inset), who recently starred opposite Nick Jonas in “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.” Guests included New England Patriots President Jonathan Kraft and his wife, PattiJack and Eileen Connors, Red Sox chairman Tom Werner . . .

And a bunch of other usual suspects.

For some inexplicable reason, the hardreading staff never got its invitation. Maybe next time.
