You’re a Jinxele . . . You Are a Jinxele . . .

January 22, 2013

(With apologies to Hubie and Bertie)

Both local dailies had items on Anna Burns (This Wife Is on Fire!) Welker’s Facebook flameout after the Pats and hubby Wes dropped the ball in Sunday’s AFC title tilt. Boston Herald’s Inside Track:

CE1_9783.JPGWes Welker’s wife takes a page from Gisele Bundchen’s book

Gisele Bundchen hasn’t rung in yet, but our new favorite Patriot wife, Anna Burns Welker, got on Facebook yesterday and ripped Ray Lewis after the Pats fell to the heinous Baltimore Ravens in theAFC Championship game. “Proud of my husband and the Pats. By the way, if anyone is bored please go to Ray Lewis’ Wikipedia page. 6 kids, 4 wives. Acquitted for murder. Paid a family off. Yay. What a hall of fame player. A true role model.”

Boston Globe’s Names:

Wes Welker’s wife rants about Ray Lewis

Not everyone is thrilled that Baltimore is going to the Super Bowl. The day after Ravens QB Joe Flacco outplayed flaccid Pats QB Tom Brady, wide receiver Wes Welker’s wife, Anna Burns Welker , posted a nasty note about Baltimore linebacker Ray Lewis on her Facebook page. “Proud of my husband and the Pats. By the way, if anyone is bored, please go to Ray Lewis’s Wikipedia page,” wrote the former Miss Hooters International. “6 kids 4 wives. Acquitted for murder. Paid a family off. Yay. What a hall of fame player! A true role model!” (Welker’s wife was referring to a January 2000 bar fight in which two men were stabbed to death. Lewis and two others were indicted for murder, but the charge against Lewis was dropped and he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of obstruction of justice.)

Nice touch, that Miss Hooters International thing. But only the Track Gals (without Megan!) had this:

At this juncture we feel it’s our duty to point out that Gi is in no danger of losing her hated nickname: Jinxele. Since the advent of The Bundchen Era, 12 has lost two Super Bowls, two AFC Championship games, one AFC divisional playoff game and one AFC wild card game. He’s missed a season with a wrecked knee and was walking in a cast right before Super Bowl XLII.

To be fair, the Globe did have the better Aly Raisman photo.

That’s fun!

Names & Facial

December 7, 2012

Ever since we found out that Mrs. Tom Brady had a Bundchen in the oven, we knew there’d be a race in the news media to announce  the arrival of the Littlest Ugg Model.

And on the local dailies front, we now have a winner.

The Namesniks at the Globe beat the Track Gals (without Megan!) at the Herald like a Boston traffic light.

The Globe item:

Sure, the story’s up on the Herald’s website now:

112a28_ltp120712baby01It’s a girl for Gisele Bundchen and Tom Brady

Patriots QB/QT Tom Brady [stats]’s supermodel wife Gisele Bundchen took to Facebook this morning to announce the birth of Vivian Lake, a daughter born “healthy and full of life,” at home on Wednesday.

“We feel so lucky to have been able to experience the miracle of birth once again and are forever grateful for the opportunity to be the parents of another little angel,” Gi posted along with a touching photo of her hand holding Vivie’s tiny hand.

Yeah yeah – whatever.

We all know it’s the dead-tree bakeoff that really matters. Score another one for the Boring Broadsheet, eh you feisty local tabloiders?

DOMA v. Sex Offender Registry Edition

July 26, 2012

Different papers, different perspectives.

From Wednesday’s Boston Globe:

Coakley asks high court to sink DOMA

Attorney General Martha Coakley has asked the country’s highest court to uphold a landmark federal ruling in Boston that granted equal rights to same-sex married couples in Massachusetts, urging the high court to officially strike down a federal law that defines marriage solely as a union of a man and a woman.

In a 27-page petition Tuesday, Coakley asked the US Supreme Court to uphold a federal appeals court decision in June that the federal Defense of Marriage Act discriminates against same-sex couples who are legally married, in violation of equal protection laws. That ruling has been stayed until the top court decides whether it will hear the case.

No mention of that in the Boston Herald.

But . . .

From Wednesday’s Herald:

‘SILLY’ POLICY SHELTERS OFFENDERS

The state’s Level 2 sex offenders — from rapists to child porn purveyors — are not listed on any online registry, because some lawmakers are throwing up a roadblock in the name of protecting privacy rights of convicts, advocates charge.

The move is also costing Massachusetts hundreds of thousands in lost crime-fighting bucks and not even Gov. Deval Patrick has been able to convince the holdout legislators to act.

No mention of that in the Globe.

So the hardreading staff went for the tiebreaker.

Only the Inside Track had this:

Oh, baby! Gi’s sooooo pregnant

Well, well, well, wethinks we can take the Gisele Bundchen pregnancy out of the rumor category and file it under confirmed. Because here’s Mrs. Tom Brady[stats] on the beach in Costa Rica with 2-year-old Benjamin sporting an unmistakable baby bump!

The Brazilian supermodel, baby Benji, their dog Lua and other family members were snapped by the paps at x17online.com as they frolicked on the shore near Gi’s vacation home. Brady was not part of the beach party, which is not surprising considering he is due to report for duty down in Foxboro today for the New England Patriots [team stats] 2012 training camp.
