Globe Win Friday’s Ricki Noel Lander Bakeoff

January 26, 2013

Friday’s Boston Globe won the Robert Kraft Girlfriend Sweepstakes with this minimally juicy item:

lander43cropLander at postseason premiere of ‘Movie 43’

Ricki Noel Lander, also known as Patriots owner Bob Kraft’s girlfriend, walked the red carpet at the Hollywood premiere of “Movie 43” on Wednesday night. Lander has two small parts in the ensemble comedy, which was co-directed by Rhode Island’s own Peter Farrelly. Also at the screening were Farrelly’s pal (and Martha’s Vineyard regular) Larry David and Boston-bred actor Neal McDonough.

Friday’s Boston Herald landered no such story.

To be fair, though, the Herald’s Track Gals (without Megan!) did have Bruins Ice Girls Kasey of Stoneham and Emilie of Attleboro prepping for Night at the Fights at the Garden.

Once again, the local dailies battle to a tie.

Sweet.

Cash ‘n’ Kerry (Patriots Playoff Edition)

January 15, 2013

So there was Sen. John Kerry (D-Am I Secretary of State Yet?) at Gillette Stadium rubbing elbows in the owner’s box with Robert Kraft and, presumably, girlfriend Ricki Noel Landed – sorry, Lander – and rubbing etc. on the field with Bill Belichick.

Clearly this called for some scrutiny by the local dailies and, true to form, they dug right in.

The Boston Globe’s Glen Johnson went this way (web only):

DownloadedFileStaff says John Kerry paid fair market value for tickets in Patriots owner Robert Kraft’s suite

The CBS Sports cameras made their traditional game-day pan of the owner’s box at Gillette Stadium on Sunday, catching not just Robert Kraft but also one of his highly recognizable guests: Senator John Kerry.

That prompted instant questions about how Kerry ended up in such rarified air, and whether the secretary of state-to-be paid his fair share to attend.

His staff insists he did.

To the tune of a whopping $191 – “what the team determined to be fair market value .”

Uh-huh.

Meanwhile, the Boston Herald’s Track Gals (without Megan!) went this way:

So you think you’re pret-tay, pret-tay funny, don’t you?

Our request yesterday for an amusing caption for this photo of Sen.John Kerry bear-hugging Patriots coach Bill Belichick on the sidelines before the AFC semifinal at Gillette Stadium was met with a few funnies.

We’re partial to one sent in via Twitter by political strategist
@Jake1839, who imagined the secretary of state-in-waiting whispering into BB’s ear, “I’m gonna need defense advice when I get to Washington.”

Ha!

As we said, true to form.

Herald’s Inside Trick: Credit Defaults

January 6, 2013

The hardreading staff has noted before the occasional tendency of the Boston Herald’s Track Gals (without Megan!) to borrow material without disclosing their sources.

Sad to say, they’re back at it again today.

From the Inside Track’s We Hear section:

• That Jim Braude and Margery Eagan, late of News Talk 96.9, will guest host for two hours on 89.7 WGBH Radio on Tuesday beginning at noon. The pair — he hosts a show on NECN and she is a Herald columnist — will host a segment within the midday show of live, local talk, according to their old WTKK boss Phil Redo, who just so happens to be managing director of ’GBH Radio. Tryout? Do stay tuned.

From yesterday’s Boston Globe:

Former WTKK hosts get one-day gig at WGBH

Two days after they hosted the final talk show broadcast on WTKK-FM, Jim Braude and Margery Eagan have lined up a one-day gig on WGBH-FM that could double as an audition.

WGBH said Friday that the former WTKK morning show hosts will guest host “Boston Public Radio” Jan. 8, filling in for Callie Crossley, Emily Rooney and Kara Miller.

Braude and Eagan hosted the last episode of “Jim & Margery” Wednesday before the station switched to an all-music format.

The pair has no other assignments booked on WGBH, but the station’s managing director, Phil Redo, suggested in an e-mail that there could be more to come.

“I’m a big fan of theirs,” said Redo, who managed WTKK and four other Greater Media Inc. stations in Boston from 2006 to 2009 . . .

Not to get technical about it, but next time the Track Gals should File Under: “We Read.”

Names & Facial

December 7, 2012

Ever since we found out that Mrs. Tom Brady had a Bundchen in the oven, we knew there’d be a race in the news media to announce  the arrival of the Littlest Ugg Model.

And on the local dailies front, we now have a winner.

The Namesniks at the Globe beat the Track Gals (without Megan!) at the Herald like a Boston traffic light.

The Globe item:

Sure, the story’s up on the Herald’s website now:

112a28_ltp120712baby01It’s a girl for Gisele Bundchen and Tom Brady

Patriots QB/QT Tom Brady [stats]’s supermodel wife Gisele Bundchen took to Facebook this morning to announce the birth of Vivian Lake, a daughter born “healthy and full of life,” at home on Wednesday.

“We feel so lucky to have been able to experience the miracle of birth once again and are forever grateful for the opportunity to be the parents of another little angel,” Gi posted along with a touching photo of her hand holding Vivie’s tiny hand.

Yeah yeah – whatever.

We all know it’s the dead-tree bakeoff that really matters. Score another one for the Boring Broadsheet, eh you feisty local tabloiders?
