Boston Herald a Day Late, Dolor Short

Nothing on this sad story in the Boston Herald, but Boston magazine did have this yesterday:

Boston Marathon Survivors and Newlyweds Announce Split

Rebekah Gregory and Pete DiMartino were married for 10 months.

Pete DiMartino, Rebekah Gregory

Almost a year after walking down the aisle, Rebekah Gregory and Pete DiMartino, Boston Marathon bombing survivors whose romance unfolded in the public eye, have decided to separate.

Gregory and DiMartino’s uplifting story made national headlines last February when TheKnot.com sponsored their dream wedding. They’ve been together since November 2012, and appeared on Ellen last February.

No credit to BoMag in the Globe piece. But that’s par for the course. We’ll see what the Herald does when it finally catches up.

Boston Dailies: Tsarnaev Jury’s In

March 5, 2015

From our Late to the Hanging Party desk

After an initial pool of 1373 potential jurors (who filled out a 28-page questionnaire) was whittled down to 256 by presiding US District Judge George A. O’Toole, whose interviews yielded 75 possibly unbiased jurors who then shrank to the Elite Eighteen – 12 jurors and six alternates – Boston now has an actual jury for the trial of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev for the Boston Marathon bombings that killed three people – Martin Richard, Krystle Campbell, and Lingzi Lu (along with MIT police officer Sean Collier) – and wounded over 200.

And the finalists had their cotillion in Wednesday’s local dailies.

This is shaping up to be one hellacious bakeoff between the two local dailies.

Fasten your seat belts, as Bette Davis would say. It’s going to be a bumpy trial.

Boston Editorial Cartoonists Fire Bibi Guns

March 4, 2015

As the hardreading staff has often noted, it’s good to live in a Two-Cartoonist Town and etc.

Today’s editions of the local dailies are no exception, providing these nifty bookends.

Different world views is exactly right.

Why Does the BPD Hate the Boston Globe?

March 2, 2015

We have a split decision in our Local Dailies Advertising Sweepstakes today. This half-page ad appears in the Boston Herald but not the Globe.

On the other hand, these two full-page ads appear in the Boston Globe but not the Herald.

(The latter is about Anthem being hacked a month ago and forking over such data as Social Security numbers, dates of birth, income information, etc. The usual drill.)

On yet another hand, this quarter-page ad pops up on the Globe’s op-ed page.

So, not an even split decision. But at least the thirsty local tabloid got something this time around.
